Donate your used bike to us and we will clean it up, make any necessary repairs and get it into the hands of a child who needs it right here in Austin. We also help find bikes for adults who just need a dependable mode of transportation.
Make more room in your garage and make someone smile, all without having to lift a finger. We take all types of bikes in any condition, parts and accessories too.
Yea I know, you’re not supposed to link to your competition. What can I say, I had too. This thing has been freaking me out since 9 o’clock last night when my living room was invaded by this abomination. I read some of the comments on You Tube and some people actually thought it was ‘cute’. What? Cute? Puppies are cute. Babies are cute, and babies whose diaper I’m not in charge of are ever cuter, but this thing… Am I the only one creeped out here? And what exactly is the message here? Please help me understand what it all means.
On a side note that doesn’t involve gargantuan marionettes that disturb me to the core, our Project Re-Cycle has been a huge sucess so far. Just the other day we had one customer donate 3 bikes for the cause. Starting to run out of room and it’s about time to plan/coordinate the first giveaway date. So stay tuned…and stay away from 20 foot tall puppets.
Did you know there are books that help kids deal with moving day? Not just one or two that, in passing mention a character is going to be moving, but tons of them dealing with everything from the actual move to making new friends and saying goodbye to old ones. I did a little research (clicked around amazon for like 5 whole minutes) and was delighted with what I found. Here, I was going to write a lengthy essay about my thoughts on helping your kids cope with moving day but it seems that topic has been covered in great detail. Here are just a few of the titles that caught my interest:
Hey everyone, I know we haven’t updated the site in a while but we’ve been working on something that I think you may like. It’s called Project Re-Cycle and it’s all about giving used bikes to kids that otherwise wouldn’t have one right here in Austin. Being a moving company we get our fair share of customers who just have too much stuff, and on moving day many people offer to give our employees the things that they simply no longer have a need or room for. We get everything from Televisions to sofas and we get a ton of bicycles. So that is where the idea was born. Now I have to give most of the credit here to Nowell who first came up with the general concept. it just so happens it was the same week I was teaching my youngest son how to ride without his training wheels. An accomplishment that I swear has changed his demeanor and confidence level in a multitude of ways. I think he even stands taller now. Here’s a cell phone video of his first night riding on his own. Every kid deserves this experience.
So that’s the concept and over the next few months we will be giving you more details about the project and hopefully be rolling out a website and maybe even finding a few sponsors. And speaking of sponsors, our dear friend JC over at Allstar Copying & Printing has already given us a first run of fliers to hand out to all of our customers.
Two things smoothed out my family’s move a few years ago: designating Open First boxes for each room in our new home, so that on the first night after the move we wouldn’t be missing any essentials; and this Smart Move Tape.
The clearly marked and color-coded designations (Office, Bedroom, Bedroom #2, Kitchen, Storage, etc.) made unloading go quickly for our movers, and organizing our many cardboard moving boxes much easier for us later on. No doubt we could have accomplished something similar with a handful of colored Sharpies, but it would have taken a lot of consistently careful writing to even approach the same effect—at a time when we were looking to make less work, not more—and the colored tapes really help make sorting a breeze.

That is a thing of beauty. Our family recently aquired the piano that my mother recieved for her tenth birthday, and I wanted to know a little bit more about the history of the company that built it. The company was called Starr Piano Company. Through digging around I found this picture and just had to share it. If you are an American history buff I encourage you to take a look at this site and learn more about the company and what they used to call “The cradle of recorded jazz” in Wayne County Indiana.
First off, I want to thank Charlie Pitkin for the idea of this post. It is a question that we get asked quite frequently and one that takes more than a 5 minute phone conversation to answer. So buckle up, this might be a long ride…
Moving to another state is probably one of the biggest undertakings most families ever encounter. New schools, new friends, new jobs and no more Central Market or Chuys can be enough to make most people dismiss the whole idea entirely. I mean really, you want to leave Austin? If you must, if you absolutely have to leave the great state of Texas you are going to have to find a way to take all of your stuff with you. There are 4 commonly used ways of accomplishing this goal…wait scratch that, there are 5 ways of doing this. Continue reading National Carriers vs. Local Moving Companies
This is pretty awesome. If you follow this link http://www.azigo.com/landing/bbb.html, you can now view businesses accredited with the Better Business Bureau in your Google results! This is an excellent service the BBB is now offering and frankly long overdue in my humble opinion.
While we’re on the subject of the Better Business Bureau, it really amazes me how few people really bother to check out the companies that they do business with. I can tell you firsthand, as a business owner that it is less than 5% of my customers that do. Every year I get a detailed report showing just how many consumers have viewed Two Guys Moving on the BBB website. When I compare that number to the number of moves we’ve done in that year it’s a little mind-numbing. The service is there and it cost the consumer nothing. Why don’t more people use it?
We are very proud of our rating and affiliation with the BBB and this tool is just one more way that integrity driven consumers can find us, so I say good job guys.
Seems everyone has a smart phone these days, and why not? I have found many applications for my phone that have made my life both professionally and personally so much easier. I decided to compile a list of the apps that I think would be beneficial to anyone planning on moving or just curious what the housing market is currently like. This list is going to be iPhone specific because…well that’s what I use, but that doesn’t mean these same applications aren’t available for Windows Mobile or Android or even you Blackberry fans. If you do have an iPhone you probably already have some of these applications because they are just so dang handy to have and most of them are free.
Flashlight – This is simply a must for every smart phone user on the planet. Why would a person who is moving need this app? All those wires, plugs and doodads behind your entertainment center aren’t going to unplug and replug themselves. I can’t begin to tell you how handy a little extra source of light is when working on stereo components or computers or finding that little screw that went missing under the dishwasher. As an added bonus the app is free and about as low tech as they come.
iHandy Level – Also a fee app for the “lite” version. Obvious uses include hanging pictures and adjusting the level on tables, desks, and appliances. Like the Flashlight app it frees you from having to carry around extra tools.
Moving List – This app is one of the few here that cost money. At $2.99 I would say it’s a bargain for the amount of information and assistance it affords you in getting ready for you move. If you are a procrastinator anyway, this app won’t help but if you are the plan ahead and pay attention to every detail type this app could be perfect for you. The reviews aren’t that great, but I played around with it and I think there is a lot of good info there.
Apartments by Primedia – There are a bunch of apartment search applications out there, but I like this one because it’s pretty fast, free and offers pictures, floor plans and current pricing all based on your proximity or by search terms you choose. Once again, it’s free.
Zillow – This app is perfect for potential homebuyers out on a Sunday drive to look at homes for sale. It’s like taking www.austinhomesearch.com along for the ride with you.
Around Me and Yelp – These apps are great for getting your bearings in a new area. Both offer the usual food, gas, and hotel info but they also have useful comments by users and of course maps. Yelp features an augmented reality (yea I don’t know what that means either) mode that allows you to hold up your phone and point it in any direction and see what services are available there. You kind of have to see it in person to understand it. But it is way cool. Both are free.
Snapture – This is a camera app and yes it is handy to have a camera around on moving day. We are constantly taking stuff apart and putting it back together so it is handy to be able to take a picture of an item during the take apart process so you know exactly how it goes back together. This app is better than the standard iPhone camera for two reasons. 1) It zooms!!!! Which is pretty great for a cell phone camera, and 2) you can take a picture by tapping anywhere on the screen, not just the little, hard to find ‘camera’ button.
AAA Roadside Assistance – If you are moving a long distance either by yourself in a rental truck or with a moving company, you should really think about an AAA membership and this app on your phone. If your car doesn’t have on-star this really is the next best thing should you break down. The app is free, but membership in AAA is not.
I would mention Google Earth and The Weather Channel for obvious reason but you already have those on your smart phone don’t you? If you think of another app that may be useful in getting ready for moving day let me know.
